Upcoming event - Chefoo Reconsidered - Malaysia 2018
August 4th - 10th

What’s different
We have planned CR 2018 to take place in the Northern Hemisphere’s summer holiday/vacation period, thus making it possible for teachers are others who find it difficult to get away at other times of the year. It is also an opportunity to include CR 2018 as part of a family holiday and to introduce to your family the place you have always been telling them about.
So this is the first CR to which children are not barred. Once again the stream and grounds of Chefoo will ring out to the sounds of children playing and laughing.
Ulrika

We are delighted that Ulrika Ernvik has agreed to once again to present the TCK sessions which many of us have found so useful.
We asked her to give us an idea of what she is hoping to cover in these sessions.
“Moving in between cultures and countries, being left at boarding school, feeling as a foreigner in the passport country, are experiences which affect a child deeply. By understanding the beliefs we develop about ourselves, the world and our relationships and how we later process traumatic experiences, we find new ground that helps us see ourselves and what we went through with new eyes. Sharing our experiences with each others, cherishing as well as grieving together, we become empowered and are able to move on.
In our sessions together I will share some research and thoughts about how growing up overseas in a Christian community and in a boarding school shapes a person. By doing a number of processing activities together and listening to each other, we will get to know each other and be able to support one another - as well as having fun together! The sessions will be interactive, encouraging community as well as respecting individual integrity.”
Outings

We will not this year be using local guides and tour companies and will organise all hikes and visits ourselves. There are many exciting jungle trails in the Camerons. You will have been on some or all of them when you were at Chefoo! Options include Gunung Berembun and Gunung Irau. We could even hike the full way up Gunung Brinchang, just a bit disconcerting to find a car park on the top!
For the various tourist attractions (eg. Boh Tea Estate, Cameron Bharat Tea Estate, Time Tunnel, Sam Poh Temple, Cameron Highlands Trails (I think there are about 10) , Agro Technology Park (Tanah Rata), Cameron Lavender (also has yogurt and ice cream), Cactus valley, Tans Camellia Garden, strawberry farms, Mah Meri Art gallery (Tanah Rata - loads of sculptures by Orang Asli), Thompson falls, Green view Garden, Orchid and Rose Garden, bee farm, tea at the smokehouse, Kea Farm market (Brinchang) , Watercress valley) we can split into smaller groups which will be organised according to preference.
Sharing
Sharing has been an important part of CR events. We soon discovered how much we had in common with other Chefusians and we started to think of ourselves as a “tribe”! There will be an opportunity to share personal stories and of course there are always lively discussions over meals and in Ulrika’s sessions.
Do I have to come to everything?

No, all events are optional. If you want to spend your time just wandering around Chefoo and further afield then please feel free to do that. Not everyone will want to participate in events of a religious nature and we recognize that. For this reason there will be no prayers at meals.
Who is invited?
Chefoo Reconsidered 2018 is open not only to those who went to Chefoo but also their brothers and sisters as well as those OMF MKs who had alternative schooling, before or after Chefoo in Malaysia closed in 2000. All of us have similar issues and are very welcome to join us!
How much will it cost?
The cost for the 5 days is £195 per person, which includes accommodation, meals and a share of costs for the visiting speaker and facilities at the site. The cost of flights and outings is additional.
